New Paintings

On the cusp of winter and spring, weather changes daily here in the mountains from sweet tender-green promises to silver ice. Today is cold, ice on the front porch steps. Too cold to paint, I write a newspaper column, but long to be outside picking daffodils, those sunshine spirits that make the heart glad. This is a larger painting I've worked on over the past month, on and off as weather permits, along with other even larger paintings. Slowly, they evolve, taking a life on of their own.
“Winter? Spring? Who knows?
White buds from the plumtrees wing
And mingle with the snows.
No blue skies these flowers bring,
Yet their fragrance augurs Spring.”
